While sitting on my butt all day Christmas Day, I had myself a little MX S1 marathon, and I came across what I think may be the episode that really started the whole Bren/Shal subtext thing in the minds of the viewers.
It was ep# 107 "Lit Fuse". Remember that scene where Bren is in the lab with Adam and he's staring at Ashley, with that whole attraction thing happening? Then Shal is hanging back in the doorway, watching them? She didn't look too pleased that Bren was so into Ashley, and it looked like a whole hell of a lot more than just friendly concern. It looked a bit like jealousy to me.
You could also make an argument for a scene in an earlier episode, ep# 105 "Kilohertz". There's that scene where Bren is helping Shal put on the bungee harness, and he has his hands around her waist...

lol u amy be right i haven't watched those eps lately except for kilohertz but i saw that and went ooohhhhhh  lol. I liked that part |

Yeah I liked the way that scene in "Kilohertz" was filmed. Even my mom agrees that it could maybe be the first subtext...but I have to go with "Lit Fuse" instead. Its more solid, something that you can't really argue with.

Iwont argue at all....When they slowed it down you could kinda see that shal liked that in Kilohertz  I think Brennan enjoyed that more ;D In lit fuse I'd have to agree that he was so going beyond the "I lilke her as a friend" thing. |

Yeah and the little teasing moments, not really subtext, but shal teasing bren started after "Lit Fuse".
Shal looked jealous that Bren liked that Ashley chick... ;D

YES! Shal was lookin at Ashley with her eyes all narrowed... she had that territorial glare goin on, and it was more than "back off of my friend", you know? It was more like "back off, he's mine!"

lol i bet....u could not not see that glare it was so obvious. She had the major terf thing going as well as the back off he's my guy ;D

It was almost like "Well, I don't want him, but no one else gets him either, just in case I change my mind" lol.
Then Ashley asked if Bren and Shal were together... Talk about a setup.

lol very true and i think Ashley was jealous for a time but shal was so ready to kick her @ss if she got near brennan

lol true very true or maybe she did think of him that way for a little bit then realized after Lit Fuse that she liked him more than as a brother

Oh I definitely think that she was thinking of him as her brother at the time...but there was more to it. And I think that after that ep she might have stopped of thinking of him so much in that sibling-type way.
