WARNING: THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE CONTAINS SPOILERS...AS WELL AS THE SHIPPER NEWS OF THE CENTURY...
As reported in the June 2004 issue of Sci Fi Magazine, by Mutant X executive producer Peter Mohan:
<With Adam back to shake things up, the Mutant X team once again discovers things aren't quite what they seem, said executive producer Peter Mohan. "Every mission that they're sent on by the Dominion, they realize that there are probably two levels to it now. Can we trust them? Can we not trust them? That becomes an interesting problem."
The problem will lead to a series of episodes that will drive the team closer to each other, said Mohan. "What becomes even more interesting, characterwise, is we start to develop some of the relationships. We develop Shalimar and Brennan's, where they actually, by the final episode, have sex. Which the Shippers are going to hopefully appreciate. And Jesse and Lexa also move along quite a bit. They become much closer and form their own relationship. It gets pretty steamy, actually, towards the end of the season."
Upcoming episodes will include Lexa discovering that she's being used to kill during her sleep, Jesse being shot by a bullet tailored to his mutant physiology, and Shalimar and Lexa infiltrating a gentleman's club that has been creating women to order.
As the season draws to a close, Brennan runs into a bounty hunter who is chasing after somebody at the center of a prophecy by a precognitive mutant. "He has prophesized a mutant who could potentially be the end of humanity as we know it." And in 'Cirque De Merveilles' a mutant circus offers a home for mutants to use their powers.
The finale, 'The Assault', has an even bigger cliffhanger for the series, which has been renewed for a fourth season. "The Dominion will finally make their move against Mutant X because they realize that Adam has been in contact with them. That they've lied to them. They precipitate a war with a cataclysmic outcome and actually, at some point, prompt out people to attack them and find out the secret at the very heart of the Dominion, which is kind of a mindblower."
