Its funny cause Shal has major trust issues, cause of her childhood, right? Well there is no doubt that she trusts Brennan with her life...but does she trust him with her heart? And why is it easier for her to turn her heart over to a guy like the scientist in "A Normal Life"? Maybe because in the end she knew she wouldn't go with him, wouldn't commit, therefore no risk. Hmmmm...

Since the beginning of season 3 especially, there is this sort of wounded animal aura around Shalimar. She has been hurt so much in her life, you know? And because of her life with Mutant X, those wounds just seem to keep piling up, especially lately. I think that being in love with Brennan will be good for her.

Yeah. Its like what I said before-Shalimar is a lot more fragile than she seems; that's what her tough exterior is about. Its about protecting herself from being hurt, since she has been hurt so much before. And you could see in this latest ep [#317] just how much she misses Adam, and in a way, how much she needs him. It broke my heart.

In a way it would have been worse for Shalimar - I mean she was living wild out on the streets for gods sake.
See that's part of the dangerous edge to Shalimar, that part of her that is sort of wild and [excuse the pun] feral; it stems not just from her nature, but from the fact that she was abused. Its like any other abused animal. It is only made worse by the fact that the instinct to protect herself is only magnified by being a sentient human being with emotions.

I can tell you one thing that is wrong with Shalimar from this point [ep 320] on... She knows whats coming. She knows a possible fate for her and her friends, and from the way she reacted, it isn't good. That has to weigh heavily on a person, especially one as sensitive as Shalimar.
Another thing is that she is HEAVILY in denial about her feelings for Brennan.

I was on another board, and someone said Shalimar being in a relationship with Brennan doesn't work realistically because Shalimar doesn't trust him. To a degree I think that's true and I think it might be one of the reasons that Shalimar holds back and denies her attraction to Brennan. She trusts him with her life, and trusts the friendship that they have, but because of the lure that Brennan's past still presents to him, and because she knows what he's all about when it comes to women and life in general, I don't think Shalimar can trust him with her heart. But I think that a part of her is falling for him all the same, which explains her moment of weakness in "The Assault". She couldn't help herself, thinking that she might die. But is she going to be in love with him when/if the series resumes? I don't think so. Realistically she can't let herself love Brennan until he does some changing. Whether or not Mohan and TPTB see it that way is another matter.

I mean I think that she is most definitely falling in love with him and has been for some time, but I think that even after being with him in "The Assault" she is still going to be afraid to go there completely with him. Like I said I don't think she can trust him with her heart yet. I think that maybe has been the crux of the problem with her end of the 'relationship' all along. She knows Brennan, what he's like and how he operates, and in spite of it, she has feelings for him. If I had to get inside Shalimar's head [because there is no proof from the scene in "The Assault"] I would say that for that moment they were together, Shal let herself love him, though she likely would have kept what she was really feeling hidden from Brennan. I think she's afraid that, if she makes herself vulnerable and gets involved with Brennan, he's going to leave her for the next hot girl or worse yet leave her for his thug life. Now I'm not saying that Brennan would do that to her , but I do think that's the big thing going through her mind. Shalimar doesn't have the point of view that we viewers have, she doesn't have any real way to know that it would be different where she is concerned.
